You’ve read about the common sense ways to improve your health, such as drinking more water, exercising, and all their close relatives, but in this article, I want to tackle things from another perspective.
I want to talk about aspects you may not associate directly with improving your wellbeing.
It’s tough to improve your health, because we have ingrained habits that keep us stuck, but those habits are not impossible to break. It all starts with tiny steps. And when I say tiny, I mean extremely tiny.
With that said, let’s get started.
1. Journal
Journaling means getting a pen and a piece of paper every morning, and writing down your thoughts. You could also do this before you go to bed. It doesn’t matter what you write. You could write about the day you had, or what you’re worried about, or something completely different.
Journaling has been proven to have many health benefits. For example, it can help you:
- Increase focus
- Reduce worry & stress
- Enhance your intuition
- Let go of troubled memories
- Increase your self-awareness
- Boost your immune system
The list goes on and on. There’s no right or wrong way to journal. Just start writing about your day, your past experiences, or whatever comes to mind.
2. Meditate
Meditation is another habit that will help you improve your health. The problem is that many people think meditation is hard, and it is to a certain extent, but meditating doesn’t mean you have to sit cross-legged for hours on end.
Even a few minutes of meditation per day can make a big difference.
And yes, there are plenty of health benefits to be had when you meditate. A few examples are:
- Lower stress
- Increased focus
- Increased creativity
- Higher productivity
- Emotional balance
- Lowers blood pressure
- Anti-inflammatory
You don’t have to quiet your mind. All you have to do is become aware of your breathing. You can do it right now. Notice your breathing going in and out. If you do this for just a few minutes per day, you’re well on your way to becoming healthier.
3. Worry Less
Another way to improve your health is to worry less.
This seems like an obvious tip, but how do you do it? First, realize that you don’t have to eliminate worry, because it may always be there.
When you catch yourself worrying, imagine breathing the worry into your heart, and then breathing it out. Do this for as long as you can, and notice how it helps you feel better almost right away.
You see, worrying is a habit. It’s a habit of going into the future and thinking about what might go wrong. It may take time to break the habit. It will be harder in the beginning, but the more you do it, the easier it gets.
4. Follow Your Passion
If you dismiss your passions, you dismiss going after what brings you happiness in life, and when you do that, it impacts your mind, and ultimately your health.
When people are happy, they tend to be healthy. So one way to improve your health is to do what makes your heart sing. Stop worrying about where it may lead, and just follow your heart.
Find what interests you, and follow it. You don’t have to quit your job or do anything radical. Remember, this is about taking tiny steps, instead of overhauling your life. Mt. Everest is not conquered in one leap, but with one step at a time.
5. Avoid Nutritional Deficiencies
Last, but not least, give your body the nutrition it needs.
Our food supply today is lower in vitamins and minerals than it has ever been, so if you can’t get high-quality, organic food, you may want to look into a good multivitamin supplement, and even some omega-3 fish oil pills.
Do your research first, because there are a lot of bad products out there. In the end, if you don’t give your body what it needs, there will be deficiencies, which will affect your health.
Summary
You’ve just discovered five simple ways to improve your health. You can start your road to wellness right now, but will you?
You alone can make the decision to do this. When you’re done reading, close your eyes for 30 seconds, and meditate. Notice your breathing going in and out. It doesn’t have to be harder than that.
You can be healthier and happier, but you have to take the first step.
