What to expect from your dentist during Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry refers to the use of pharmacological agents to calm and relax a patient prior to and during a dental appointment. The pharmacological agents usually belong to a class of drugs called sedatives, which exert their action by depressing the central nervous system, specifically those areas concerned with conscious awareness.
Most dental cases can be done under local anesthesia alone or sometimes in conjunction with an oral sedative and nitrous oxide sedation. However, certain complex cases, anxious and special needs patients, and children may require a more controlled and deeper level of anesthesia. The degree of anesthesia in such cases can vary between moderate-deep sedation and general anesthesia.
In order to put someone to sleep an intravenous needs to be started. Children receive an injection or drink to sedate tem then they receive a gas/vapor and once they are asleep the intravenous is started. Adults who can tolerate intravenous placement do not receive an injection, pill or mask. Waking up following this type of start to anesthesia is quick and you feel rather awake. If the adult patient requires a pill to reduce anxiety prior to the placement of the intravenous catheter, the recovery will be prolong
The use of anesthesia is safe and effective when properly administered by trained and certified dental surgeons.

From my own experience with the dentist while removing a tooth, the anesthesia didn’t total made the gum numb, I felt pain during removal. All the same the pain was worth it cos it was the only means to treat it.
Hello mazino, i dont want to steal your opinion from you, so i will try to make mine without tampering with your, i was at my dentist last week for cosmetics dentistry, the anesthesia made me feel no pain till all the process was done.
Oh no. I love the dentist. All that scraping!
Thanks for sharing this advice! As someone who gets nervous around needles, I think it would be smart for me to get sedation dentistry. My nervousness could potentially be a problem, especially if the dentist needed to make a filling or clean a certain tooth rigorously. The last thing I want to do is jeopardize the health of my teeth!
Thanks for sharing amazing tips we should take care during sedation dentistry. Most of the people eat heavy food prior to the surgery as they might think they would not be able to eat on the same day. A sedation level given to the patient depends upon the surgery. In some cases local anesthesia is sufficient for the surgery.
