“Nothing is working out. Nothing seems to be going alright. My life has become hell and i don’t want to live anymore”; are few statements which are now a day’s commonly heard from each and every person’s mouth.
This in simple words is “Depression“. It can happen due to work stress, relationship issues, study pressure, competition etc. The more modern and fast mankind has become; more has become the greed and expectations. And when they are not fulfilled one feels dejected and desolate leading to depression. But there are many risks which it cause both mentally and physically. It ruins health.
The brain neurotransmitter often associated with depression is called serotonin which is regarded as the “brain oil”. It can be compared to the fuel of a vehicle which if gets burnt at a random rate affects the vehicle to function properly, and in our case human body is the vehicle. It cripples the mind and the body.
Depression is like garbage (unwanted and unnecessary) and it totally destroy your self-confidence. One tends to feel many things like you are going crazy and there’s no hope, you would be better off dead, it would be better if you weren’t around as you are a burden to your family and friends, no one really cares about you etc.; making us go through all kind of rubbish thoughts. So a person should keep oneself as far as possible from this monster named “Depression”, so that it doesn’t ruin your life.
The various ill-effects of depression are described as follows:
1: Depression can damage the brain permanently, so the person has difficulties remembering and concentrating once the disease is over.
2: Depression is a risk factor for the development of heart disease. Depression is also associated with poor outcomes, such as an earlier death or subsequent heart attack
3: One tends to lose physical energy. Like even after sleeping for ten hours, you’ll still be bone tired. You will cry at the drop of a hat; driving down the highway, doing dishes, sitting at work, etc. in this case, Exercise can help solved the issue, doing exercise can boost your physical Energy..
4: Depression is not something you can hide and it might be even called “infectious” in some way. And it is definitely able to influence your relations with your near and dear.
5: Depression is characterized by total indifference to any activities, former interests and hobbies; a person is easily and quickly exhausted; he experiences problems with sleeping and eating; it is hard to concentrate and follow through your responsibilities.
6: Addiction presents with further health effects as a consequence of the original depression as the health risks for those who are depressed are much more likely to turn to alcohol or illegal drugs in an attempt to escape their symptoms.
7: The distressed person becomes trapped in a vicious cycle and many who seek treatment for substance abuse also suffer from underlying depression i.e. they try to search for happiness and peace in other things to overcome depression like sex, shopping, food, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gambling etc., the worse part being that they get addicted to these things which ruins them not only financially also ruins them as a human being.
The above are few effects of depression which acts as a slow poison and kills a person mentally sometimes dragging him to an asylum; and sometimes kills physically as well. So everybody must be aware if it’s ill effects and if suffering from its symptoms should get treated which includes medication or psychiatric assistance. Because “life is precious”.
