A type of pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) is known as Asperger’s syndrome, it is also called Asperger’s disorder. Pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) is a condition which involves delay in development of a person like basic skills, fails to communicate properly, using imagination and lots more.

This disease is quite similar to Autism. Autism is another type of pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) but more severe than this disease. The children suffering with Asperger’s Syndrome functions much better than the patients of Autism. These patients have normal intelligence but have problem in communicating with others.

Hans Asperger was the first doctor who described about this disease in 1944 and this disease is named as Asperger’s Syndrome after him. Till date very less people know correct information about this disease. Here I have got some important information about this disease.

What are the Symptoms of Asperger’s?

This disease has different symptoms as per different stages of this disease. Some common symptoms of this disease are:

1).Sometimes the patient with Asperger’s syndrome faces difficulty while interacting with others and feels awkward in social places.

2).Odd, repetitive movement  are seen in the children with this disease like finger twisting or hand wringing.

3).Sometimes children with Asperger’s Syndrome refuse to do something which normal children do like dressing up in a specific manner.

4).These patients are unable to make eye contact with others while interacting.

5). Asperger’s Syndrome patients are talented in some particular area like, math’s or music or in any other activity.

What are the causes of Asperger’s?

No one knows the exact cause of this disease, but some medical researcher says that this disease is a hereditary disease passed on from parent to child.

What are the treatments for this disease?

There is no permanent treatment for the children with Asperger’s Syndrome. But there are many alternative treatments available for these children which help these children to be independent. These alternative treatments include:

1).There are many special education structured for these patients.

2).Behavior modification helps these patients to increase positive behavior in them.

3).Social skill therapies are proved very helpful for the children with Asperger’s Syndrome.

4). There is no medicine available in the market that can cure this disease but, if the patient is suffering with some symptoms such as anxiety, depression, hyperactivity, and obsessive-compulsive behavior then these symptoms can be treated with medication.

    Is there such a thing a ‘borderline aspergers syndrome’? If so what are the symptoms of this, and could it be passed on? I ask this as my husband has aspergers and he and I have baby boy. So I would like to know if our son, could have it?
